This Grade II* listed building was part of the Priory of Spalding and is believed to be c.1230 in origin. Due to its unique shape it has long been known as The Oven or The Prior's Oven. Formerly it is said to have been a lock-up for the monks and the name is derived from its shape, not from its former uses, the last being a bakery. It became an interesting micropub in 2013, consisting of a single vaulted room on the ground floor with eight concentric arches that houses the bar. A spiral stone staircase leads to an upper room of similar proportions but without the vaulting. It is closed Monday to Wednesday and opens late afternoon on Thursdays and Fridays. Real ales and ciders are served.
